Douala, Cameroon – 21 March 2025 – PORTSEC, a strategic partner in port development, is supporting the transformation of the Port Autonome de Douala (PAD) through the Douala Port Security (DPS) Phase 3 project. By combining operational excellence and innovation, this initiative reflects PORTSEC’s commitment to supporting the modernisation of infrastructure and strengthening the security of Cameroon’s main maritime hub, thereby contributing to its attractiveness and economic growth.
A strategic partnership for world-class security
As part of DPS 3, PORTSEC is deploying innovative solutions to guarantee a level of security that complies with ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) standards. These efforts help to secure port operations while ensuring a climate of confidence for investors and economic operators.
Key initiatives implemented by PORTSEC include:
- New security infrastructure: Construction and modernisation of buildings dedicated to the port police, customs and gendarmerie, guaranteeing optimal conditions for surveillance and intervention.
- Optimising human resources: Increasing the number of security staff by 200, with training support to ensure enhanced surveillance and greater responsiveness.
- Advanced technological systems: Implementation of modern surveillance devices, including smart cameras, biometric access control systems and surveillance drones.
- Emergency response unit: Deployment of specialised teams (05 doctors and 20 nurses) in crisis management, equipped with ambulances and first aid equipment to ensure a rapid response in the event of an incident.
- A state-of-the-art naval simulator: Installation of the first maritime training simulator in Central Africa, enhancing the skills of professionals in the sector and positioning Douala as a regional centre of excellence in maritime training.
- Securing hazardous materials: Modernisation of storage and processing infrastructures for high-risk substances, ensuring strict compliance with international standards.
A lasting commitment to the competitiveness of the PAD
The Douala Port Security (DPS) Phase 3 project is the continuation of PAD’s commitment to world-class security and efficiency, in partnership with PORTSEC. This phase follows on from the successful DPS 1 and DPS 2 projects, which laid the foundations for the modernisation of port security, infrastructure and operational standards.
